Wide angle lenses capture a wider field of view. Normal lenses are for routine photos. Telephoto lenses make distant subjects appear closer. Each type of lens used with appropriate camera settings also offers different photo effects. Lenses also have different speeds. One 50mm lens might be a 2.8 and another 50mm lens might be a 1.4. The lower the number the larger the aperture and the better for low light shooting or getting faster shutter speeds.
